OK so. while im on this incredible high that is my GENIUS.
I was surfing around youtube last nite (ok. 4 am) and watching vids when it suddenly dawned on me in a totally unrelated (crazy?…bah semantics) way.
I want to get a Ukulele. See, its brilliant in so many ways. Its pretty cheap, Its small and portable, it shouldn’t be too hard to learn with guitar experience, and its just totally sweet.
This is a pretty decent one and its about 70 dollars. not bad?

This ones a more ballin one that I am def not ready to commit to:

OK so thats not where it gets brilliant. So what am I going to do with a uke once i get it? ready?
…im gonna start a band.
A marginalized instrument band. That’s rite. Im gonna get together all those instruments that were given that cockeyed glance and looked down upon by “real” instruments and we are going to unite. and ROCK!
BAND SLOTS ARE OPEN AND AUDITIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED. ACT FAST TO CLAIM YOUR SPOT. MUSICAL SKILL NOT NECESSARY BUT ENCOURAGED. POSITIONS TO BE FILLED ARE AS FOLLOWS:
BAND INSTRUMENTS
Lead Ukulele: Poon
Harmonica: Dan Lee
Keytar with Synth Drums: TBD
Recorder: TBD
Triangle/Cowbell: TBD
OTHER INSTRUMENTS OPEN TO SUGGESTION
Possible band names include: The Marginalized Five, Dorkus Melorkus, and The Tim Poon High Five Auditory Experience (Hi5 for short).
AGAIN ACT FAST CAUSE WE ARE GOING TO BE HUGE. AND WE ARE GOING TO ROCK. LIKE SO HARD.
PEACE,
[Poon]
(all comments/suggestions/applications: post in official band discussion forum in comments below.)
lol what about an accordian!!! i see a lot of accordian players on the streets of spain, so while the US may be suffering a dearth of these jiving gems i can use my spanish to charm them into returning to chicago with me… just gimme like 2 more months =)
another suggestion: in dublin i saw a man with two spoons jamming along with some traditional irish music. spoons poon! more spoons!
Tim Poon this is the winning band name:
The Ukeharmtarrecosynthexylobells
The world will hear the name before the music & instantaneously fall in love.
what about a PICALO! …hm but that may clash/accentuate the harmonica..not sure.. :p
and also, when you say “lead ukulele” does that mean there’s going to be a secondary guy playing ukulele? like the backup ukulele?
can i play the cowbell? PLZ. PLZ?!?!?!
I don’t think harmonica is soo marginalized…its very well accepted in the blues world in fact, its preferred….but dont kick me out ….
speaking of strange instruments…add this to the list….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIL_xrqjo1g
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29o8C_0hGxw
we also have to add that horn thing from australia…
Can I play the least difficult instrument?
I don’t have one in mind…just assign me.
Really though, we can just unplug my mic…I won’t mind I swear
Word’s out that the new Kanye album, “808s and Heartbreak” should be coming out earlier then expected. The original anticipated release was in December but Kanye has just recently bumped it up to November because he, “felt like it.”
It’s been said that this coming album should mark a different tone and slightly different style then what most people have come to expect based on his previous albums. I, for one, am thrilled. It’s nice to see someone that’s in the mainstream hiphop industry and not be afraid to try something that isn’t the same previous recipe for success.
Of course, this would come down to what Kanye’s definition of “different” is, but I am still intrigued nonetheless. Maybe its all a huge marketing gimmick. In any case, if you haven’t heard it yet, I’ve attached the single from his new album. Give it a listen and see for yourself. Click the little box by the song to download. Turn the bass up and enjoy!
Unnecessary FYI: 808s refers to the Roland TR-808 drum kit.

ok for years i have been against christian rap, not cause i disagree with the concept. i was against it cause most of the christian rap i came across was terribly lame.
now i’m not really into hip-hop/rap, but i know what does not suck.
i am giving christian hiphop another chance.

Hello there,
I know an official “first post” is supposed to be due, filled with a welcome and cleverness and such, but I just can’t deal with the pressure. So for now, as a celebration of this new joint endeavor, I would like to share with everyone these songs that I have been listening to in the past few days.
I took the time to arrange the songs in an order that would flow well. I also made sure the playlist is of burnable length. If you like a song, feel free to download it =)
In return, I invite you to bookmark or subscribe to an rss feed by clicking that little orange button that shows up on your browser, or use whatever you use to manage your subscriptions. If you don’t know what that means, the next time you are signed into your Gmail, click on “Reader” at the very top and Google should walk you through it. This is web 2.0, the internet should be coming to you!
Well, Enjoy! (and stick around)
